What kind of programs and courses do you offer?
We offer a wide range of courses in various digital art and media topics. We have separate programs for kids, teens and adult learners. In addition to our summer university programs, we offer onsite training for companies and schools throughout the year. Please visit our course offerings page for a complete list of programs and courses.
How much does it cost to attend DMA in the summer?
Tuition fees vary from $600 to $1200+ depending on the program and length of course. We also offer optional housing and dining at most summer locations beginning at $465 per week.
Please visit our program fees page for a complete listing of current fees.
Will I have to share a computer with other students?
While we encourage collaboration, every attendee will have a dedicated computer.
What will I take home at the end of the week?
All DMA courses are hands-on and project-based. At the end of the week you will take home a completed project on a DVD.
What kind of computers and software do you use in your courses?
We use state-of-the-art, networked computers (typically new or only 1-year old) and the latest version of whatever software is being utilized in the course.
Do you offer airport pickup?
We prefer to have a professional transportation service pick up students at the airport. We provide local information to our attendees once they have registered, often recommending transportation services like Super Shuttle. We provide discount codes when available.
Where do I check in for housing on Sunday and class on Monday?
Check-in information specific to each location is made available on a protected attendee site several weeks prior to the start of a program and is only available to attendees and/or parents who have registered and paid for a course.
Is adult housing and dining offered at your locations?
A link to local hotels is available on each location-specific Web page. Dorm-style housing is also available at many DMA locations. We highly recommend you consider a hotel if you are concerned about the living standards of a college dorm. Dorm quality varies considerably by location, so please check with us if you have questions.
Do you have a residential option for summer Teen and Adventures programs?
At most of our summer locations, parents have the option of enrolling their children in the DMA residential program. We offer a separate pre-college dorm experience for teens and a separate dorm experience for Adventures kids. Both programs are organized and supervised by live-in adult counselors. Three meals/day are included. Weekend stays for students taking multiple courses are available at select locations.
How does lunch work?
Students taking a DMA course but not staying on campus (commuters) have the option of purchasing a lunch plan. Most campus dining halls also accept cash, so purchasing a lunch plan, while convenient, is not required. Some commuters choose to bring lunch.
If I stay on campus, who will my roommate be?
Adults taking DMA Pro-Series courses are assigned a single room. In some cases, it is possible to share a room with a colleague or friend to save money.
Teens and Adventures program kids will share a room with another student. It is possible to request a roommate at the time of registration if coming with a friend. Otherwise, and most commonly, we match our students by gender, age and interest. At a few locations, such as UCLA, single rooms can be purchased for an additional fee.
What do I need to bring if I am staying on campus?
A complete list of suggested items to pack is made available on the protected attendee site. The list is location-specific and may include items such as sheets or sleeping bag, towels, toiletries, alarm clock, fan and a pillow.
What do residential students do in the evenings and on the weekends?
During the week, teen and Adventures students will enjoy activities like board games, Capture the Flag, scavenger hunts, soccer, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, basketball, video gaming tournaments, exploring the beautiful campus and a healthy dose of summer splashing – there’s something for everyone. Activities vary by location.
Weekend excursions vary considerably by location, but examples include miniature golf, amusement parks, Lazer Tag® and water parks. Students are always accompanied by trained adult staff.
While we do not provide organized activities for adults, a link to local attractions can be found on the location pages of the DMA website.
What risk-management precautions do you take to ensure the safety of your teen and youth attendees?
We employ a secure and strict check-in and checkout system for our youth. No one is allowed to pick up your child without proper identification and written authorization on file. All our counselors carry cell phones and can be easily reached at any time. In addition to being CPR Certified, DMA staff must pass a stringent background check and attend a thorough risk management and emergency procedures training. We use the common sense, no “one-on-one” rule and employ the “buddy system.” All our computers are protected with strict Internet content filtering software.
What if I have a medical emergency?
All staff members are First Aid and CPR Certified, so we are equipped to handle minor injuries ourselves. Emergency facilities are nearby in the rare instance that they are needed. Parents of teens and kids will be notified immediately whenever sickness or injury occurs.
Can I visit my child?
Of course! In fact, we encourage you to come on Friday afternoon at 3pm to see all the incredible projects that were made during the week. If you need to visit at other times during the day, Monday-Friday, call the DMA campus director or visit the DMA office and we’ll escort you over to the classroom after verifying your identity. If your child is staying overnight and you need to see him/her, call the residential DMA staff – phone numbers provided on the secure attendee information page.
