Create Your Own Movie Featuring Hollywood-caliber Special Effects

This two-week academy focuses on the art of digital filmmaking with an emphasis on special effects and high-end post-production polish. Week One introduces the technical aspects of filmmaking, including everything from screenwriting and storyboarding to importing video and editing it. A week of presentations, screenings, film discussions and production meetings gives future filmmakers a look behind the scenes of the business of movie making, while creating their own short films.

During Week Two, students experience the vivid world of post-production and Hollywood special effects. Students learn by doing, using film-industry-standard software (like After Effects®) to composite video, apply color correction, and utilize motion tracking and 3D graphics.

• How to make professional-looking films using HD cameras & pro gear
• Pre- & post-production, basic & advanced scriptwriting & storyboarding
• Basic & advanced camera techniques, white balance, shutter speed, exposure, natural light & more
• Basic & advanced video editing techniques, using Final Cut Pro®
• Motion graphics and visual effects, using Final Cut Pro® and After Effects®
• Outputting media for web, YouTube, mobile devices and DVD

Course may vary slightly based on student expertise & class interest. All students work on their own personal projects, which they keep.

Ages 13-17 | Beginning to Advanced | No Filmmaking Experience Required

You’re interested in both making films and special effects. You want hands-on experience with the tools industry professionals use and expert guidance to make the most of them.

Want to get a behind-the-scenes look at how special effects are created and integrated into films – and learn how to create your own? This is how. You’ll also learn the basics of screenwriting and storyboarding, Plus: how to import and edit video, all while using film-industry-standard software like, Fiinal Cut Pro®, After Effects® and/or Motion® to composite video in post-production.
