Surfing and Filmmaking – Combined in this Extreme Sports Camp

Spend the morning in the ocean catching a wave, experiencing one of the world’s best beaches in San Diego! Then spend the afternoon in DMA’s state-of-the-art studio classroom creating an incredible action video. On the beach, learn basics like how to handle a surfboard, ocean safety and surf etiquette.

You’ll learn how to catch a wave, plus riding tips, tricks and maneuvers that will sharpen your surfing skills. In the studio, learn how to edit and assemble video of the action while integrating sound and special effects to create an extreme surfing video. This course is for active students who want to combine these two interests into one exciting summer camp experience. All surfing and video equipment is provided and all students/campers leave with awesome new surfing skills, a tan and their very own surfing video.

• Introduction to surfing & basic surfing techniques
• Basic surfing video production introduction
• Action sports filming techniques
• Post-production and advanced editing techniques with Final Cut Pro®
• How to compress & export video for web, YouTube & mobile devices
• Surfboard handling & surf etiquette
• Ocean & general water safety

Parents understand and agree to accept the risks associated with surfboarding and watersports. All students take home a personal film project.

Who Should Attend: Surfing and Filmmaking
Ages 13-17 | Beginner–Advanced | No Surfing or Filmmaking Experience Required

Active campers and watersports enthusiasts eager to learn how to handle a surfboard and video camera. For those who enjoy the water and want to learn to develop or sharpen their surfing skills, this camp delivers all that and more. You’ll learn the basics of surfing and ocean safety, while in the afternoon you’ll learn how to edit together video of that morning’s action.

Learn how to capture your experience using state-of-the-art HD video cameras and industry-standard software like Final Cut Pro®.

Participants need to be able to swim.
